How To Avoid Lower Back Pain During Pregnancy
The majority of pregnant women complain about back pain. It can be observed at any stage of pregnancy. The back
pain also increases. The pain disturbs the daily routine while you are pregnant and it is observed that it can be
reduced if pregnant women sleep for a longer duration of time. It is noticed that in between 50% to 70% of women
are facing a lower back pain problem during pregnancy.
What are the reasons for back pain during pregnancy. There are more then a few things that contribute to it.
Most of the women face the lower back pain at the start of the pregnancy stage, in most cases it happens due to the
fact that women might be obese while being pregnant at the same time. When these two factors are combined, it
causes the lower back pain.
Let's look at some causes of pregnancy back pain:
- It is observed that with pregnancy, the secretion of hormones increases. These are situated in the ligaments
in the pelvic area. These joints are very soft, hence secretion of hormones and overweight can cause the pain in
the back.
- There is another factor involved in the back pain in pregnant women which is the center of gravity. With the
pregnancy the gravity moves in forward direction as your uterus grows as well as the baby.
- Another important factor which influences the back pain is the additional weight. As the women tend to grow along
with the pregnancy, weight increases, and the whole weight lies on the spinal cord, which is affected, and causes
back pain.
In order to reduce the lower back pain during pregnancy, the gynecologists suggest some important factors which
should not be underestimated, although it is still a big issue for those women who are pregnant. A few important
steps should be taken to overcome this problem.
Here are few suggestions which anyone can follow:
- During the stage of the pregnancy, it is advised not to work hard, but to do simple physical exercises leading
to get relief from back pain. It will support and strengthen the spinal cord.
- It is advised not to bend too much so that your abdominal muscles can't/won't support too much pressure. This
will help in preventing back pains.
- One more thing that you should keep in mind is that you should NEVER, and I do mean never, wear high heels
while you are pregnant. Like I said it won't be that helpful plus the pain will put a lot of pressure on your
spinal cord and cause you a lot of complications when it comes to delivery.
- It is necessary to know that you shouldn't sleep on your back. Try to change your positions as slowly as
possible.
- It is also suggested that women who are suffering from severe back pain during pregnancy should wear a safety
belt. It will give support to your spinal cord. - Get as much rest as possible. It will make things a lot easier
for you.
